Year 4 Topic Homework
This week in Year 4, we will be looking at creating and experimenting with sound at home.
Using objects you find at home, create a basic piece discussing the pulse and rhythm.
Pulse is a steady beat like a ticking clock or your heartbeat. It can be measured in time by counting the number of beats per minute (BPM).
Rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds as you move through the song.
If you are still unsure of these terms, watch this BBC video to help explain.
Be as creative with your piece as you want. How about using recycled objects or things that you were going to throw in the bin? This video shows children creating sound from rubbish they collected.
How about creating your own instruments?
In fact, how about just making sounds using your body as percussion? For example you may try clapping your hands, stamping your feet or clicking your fingers. All will make sound! There is a PowerPoint attached specifically for ‘Body Percussion’ to help you.
Or you could simply use pots and pans or other objects at home that would make interesting sounds, but again be as inventive as you want! Maybe you could film your piece to share with friends and family? Maybe you could get your family involved? I know we would all love to see your creations when we are back at School.
Now get making music! Have fun musicians!
